In addition to threatening the benefits of current retirees, the Bowles-Simpson plan greatly endangers the promise of Social Security for the youngest Americans.  As this graph from Social Security Works demonstrates, the younger a worker is today, the greater the cut to his or her Social Security benefits at age 65 under the Bowles-Simpson plan.  This graph shows the effect of this harmful plan on the annual Social Security benefits of average earners.
