Republicans Can’t Run From Their Vote to Steal Our Health Care

(Washington, DC) — The following is a statement from Alex Lawson, Executive Director of Social Security Works:

“Early this morning, House Republicans jammed through a bill to rip health care away from at least 13.7 million Americans and use the money to give massive tax cuts to billionaires.

If this bill becomes law, it will end Medicaid as we know it. Private insurance will get worse and more expensive. Hospitals and nursing homes around the country will close. Entire communities will lose access to health care. Working and middle class families will suffer, while billionaires get richer.

This fight is far from over. Earlier this week, Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) ran away when I asked her about her committee vote to cut Medicaid. But she can’t run away from her vote to steal our health care, and neither can her colleagues.

Republicans are about to head home. We’re working with grassroots activists across the country to make sure they don’t get a moment’s peace in their districts. Neither will Republican Senators, who will now take up this bill.

Every Republican who voted for this bill will regret it for the rest of their short political careers.”
