Social Security Works to Host Virtual Town Hall for Social Security’s 87th Anniversary

Participants, including Reps. John Larson and Pramila Jayapal, will call for Congress to vote on protecting and expanding Social Security

(Washington, D.C.) — On Monday, August 15 at 1 PM ET, the day after Social Security’s 87th anniversary, Reps. John Larson (D-CT) and Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) will join Social Security advocates for a virtual town hall celebrating the occasion.

Town hall participants will condemn recent attacks on Social Security from Republicans, including Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL). They will highlight polling showing that voters strongly support Democratic plans to expand Social Security, and call for Congress to hold a vote on Social Security expansion prior to the November midterm elections.

The town hall is hosted by Social Security Works. It will be livetweeted with the hashtag #SocSec87.
