51 Republican Senators Just Voted for Massive Cuts to Medicare and Medicaid

(Washington, DC) — The following is a statement from Alex Lawson, Executive Director of Social Security Works, on the Senate passing a budget on a party line vote:

“Nearly every Republican in the Senate just voted for a budget that calls for cutting $1 trillion from Medicaid and $470 billion from Medicare. They want to use these cuts to pay for massive tax giveaways to their billionaire donors and giant corporations.

In the coming months, we will fight this disastrous plan at every turn―in the Finance Committee, on the Senate floor and in every congressional district across the country. GOP leaders think they will be able to sneak these cuts through without facing the anger of the American people. They are about to learn just how wrong they are.”
