The Trump Agenda is a Threat to Social Security
(Washington, DC) — The following is a statement from Nancy Altman, President of Social Security Works, in reaction to Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech:
“Instead of bringing the nation together, Donald Trump just spent the State of the Union bragging about his party’s tax giveaway to billionaires and stirring up fear against immigrants. What he didn’t mention is that the GOP has made clear its plans to use their tax giveaway as an excuse to demand cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
Sadly, that’s not the only threat to the American people’s retirement in Trump’s agenda. His administration’s plan to cut immigration in half would put Social Security’s future in jeopardy by causing the program to lose $2.4 trillion in contributions over the next 75 years.”
