(Washington, DC) — The following is a statement from Alex Lawson, Executive Director of Social Security Works, on today’s ongoing hearing on Medicare for All in the Health Subcommittee of the Energy & Commerce Committee:

“When Medicare for All becomes the law of the land, the path will go largely through two key House Committees – Ways and Means, and Energy and Commerce. With today’s historic hearing, members of both those committees have now heard the case for Medicare For All.

Medicare for All has made it this far due to unparalleled grassroots energy. Everyone who is in today’s packed hearing room can see — and hear — that the momentum is with Medicare for All.

The greed of pharmaceutical, insurance, and hospital corporations is killing people every day, and driving many more into bankruptcy. Today’s hearing makes it clear that the only solution is to get for-profit greed out of health care by passing improved and expanded Medicare for All.”

Lawson is available for interview about the hearing, as is Social Security Works senior advisor Dr. Sanjeev Sriram.
