Donald Trump Demands Cuts to Social Security; President Biden’s Budget Calls to Protect and Expand Social Security
(Washington, DC) — Today, Donald Trump called for cutting Social Security while President Joe Biden released a FY2025 budget that calls for protecting and expanding Social Security.
The following is a statement from Nancy Altman, President of Social Security Works:
“This morning, Donald Trump went on television and called for cuts to Social Security, along with Medicare and Medicaid.
This is consistent with Trump’s record as President, when he proposed cuts in every single one of his budgets and tried to permanently eliminate Social Security’s dedicated funding. It is consistent with Trump’s past calls to privatize Social Security and raise the retirement age, as well as his slandering it as a “Ponzi scheme.”
It is also consistent with the House Republican FY2025 budget, which proposes creating a commission designed to slash Social Security and Medicare behind closed doors.
President Joe Biden released his FY2025 budget today, with a very different vision for Social Security’s future. Biden’s budget calls for protecting and expanding Social Security — and paying for it by requiring millionaires and billionaires to contribute their fair share.
Make no mistake: Social Security is on the ballot this November.”
