Statement on Mitch McConnell Delaying a Vote on Trumpcare

(Washington, DC) — The following is a statement from Nancy Altman, President of Social Security Works, in reaction to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell delaying a vote on Trumpcare until after the July 4th recess:

“In the face of resistance from activists around the country, Mitch McConnell has been forced to delay a vote on health care repeal. His strategy of keeping the bill secret has failed. The American people now have full access to the bill’s contents, and GOP Senators are going home to face their constituents.

That is good for the health of the American people and our democracy. The more time the American people have to understand Trumpcare, the more they will dislike it. Rather than providing improved access to health care, this bill takes away health care in order to give huge tax windfalls to the very richest among us.

Now is not the time to become complacent. It is the time to escalate. McConnell still has every intention of jamming this cruel bill through the Senate — ripping health care away from 22 million people, gutting Medicaid, and raiding Medicare. Social Security Works will continue to work with activists and partner organizations around the country to resist Trumpcare, until the GOP permanently abandons this abomination of a bill.”
